Cyanogen has released an experimental version of his ROM which brings version 2.1 to one of the oldest Android handsets: the HTC Dream, Magic and Sapphire (which you may know better as the T-Mobile G1and myTouch 3G).

This version is experimental, Cyanogen even warns you that he's not responsible if it eats your cat.

So what can you expect? Check out our video and see for yourself.

  • This is a terrible review, i'm really sorry to say that. Makes the rom look like shit. This rom is actually very fast. Next time, make a review after about an hour after you installed the rom, so everything can set up the way it suppost to.

  • It does have 3D hardware acceleration. The only things that he doesn't include from 2.1 is the Launcher2, which is the updated app drawer that you mentioned, and the stock live wallpapers, but it is supported. He just didn't include it due to him thinking it wouldn't run smoothly. Also, all pictures are going to have that static pixelation after you take it. This is due to the actual driver being backported from another device, due to the fact that there are no drivers for older Android phones.

  • talks way way way to much

  • @raghavaj my 528 Mhz backflip is running CM7 (2.3.5) and it's extremely smooth. Same speed processor as the G1. take that! :-P

  • if u do this to a phone will the phone company think its a differnt phone or what

  • The old Android phones will lag when running 2.2 because it is meant to work with a 1ghz processor. The G1 had a much slower processor.
