On July 1st the inauguration of the Gorom Lhasa Railway 3 Free Tibet Activists unfurled a banner over the Beijing railway station reading "China's Tibet Railway: Designed to Destroy."
Tibetans inside and out side Tibet oppose the Gormo Lhasa Railway on the grounds that it is a tool Beijing will use to overwhelm the Tibetan population, exploit Tibet's resources, dilute Tibetan culture and devastate the Tibetan environment.

According to official Chinese sources, Tibet has proven deposits of 126 minerals, with a significant share of the world's reserves in lithium, chromite, copper, borax, and iron. Amdo's oil fields produce over one million tons of crude oil per year.
1. The railway is to help steal Tibet's resources
2. Get troops into Tibet in a hurry
3. Help subsidised migrant workers (who do jobs the local Tibetans should be doing) go to and from China more easily
