A system is only as effective as its user. You are going to need smarter well trained grunts to use these high tech gizmo, which translates to more spending for the military. Its cheaper and more efficient (but unethical) to throw a bunch of basic training teenage marine grunts at the enemy and back it up with bombs and planes, humans are cheaper, tech isnt.
I see this LW system good for elite forces and high profile missions only, where the task outweighs the cost.

couldnt they just issue radios to everyone(lighter cheaper) like the british do and avoid all this bullshit? only reason most soldiers dont know where friendlies are is because they're out of shouting range.

@Blueracer66 its about 10 pounds now i put a 10 pound weight in a backpack and ran for about 15 minuets i was tired man but in not fit like a soldier eather

they are considering using smartphones with accesories like the mics and displays and ect to do all of this. lol. took them long enough! my gs 2 is way more powerful than any of those systems. they are just working on figuring out the signal issues- converting an android or iphone to work on low level freqs.
