    I always assumed it was a reference to douching with water that is too cold, not quite body temperature, and gives the person being douched a "douche chill," which would be similar to the feeling of awkwardness in the room when someone does something embarrassing.

    Because when Tobias uses this expression in a moment of extreme awkwardness, the fact that he is referring to an unsuccessful douching only makes the awkwardness exponentially worse.
