  • Not sure if the limbic system "processes" emotions as opposed to registering them. I think processing them is an attribute of higher brain functions. I worked out most of my abuse issues through dance. It's through dance that I became aware of the mind body connection. It was through certain movements that memories were triggered, and this began a process of learning to tolerate the pain of the memory enough to work though it.

  • People affect other people. The emotional atmosphere in which we are raised has powerful impact on how we experience ourselves and our world. Part of what gets us into trouble is that our honest and genuine reactions to previous painful events may be unavailable to us, hidden even from ourselves.
