always hated and still hate watson for being such an ass with his all stupid theory and the horrible experiments. sick man -_-; poor Albert. i wonder how was he like when he grew up...
This is explained through a phenomenon known as stimulus generalisation where by Albert responds to stimulus with similar attributes as the white rat.
Albert had shown no sign of fear toward the variety of objects initially. Objects including a dog, rabbit, a white rat, a santa claus mask and a fur coat. The psychologists formed a conditioned response in Albert by making a loud noise every time the child went to touch the white rat. After a few sessions Albert developed a fear of the white rat. However it was then discovered that the other objects, due to similar traits such as fur, would also elicit fear in Albert.
haha what an ass, putting on that mask and freaking out a little kid

Aka Classical Conditioning : ) working on a stimulus-response basis :p

I believe it was the fact that it was "furry" and also of the same texture which made him scared in the first place.
