FAT! (or should that be PHAT?) Anyway, this snare is exactly that. The depth and thin shell give it a low fundamental but the high-carbon snares maintain a quick snare response. Reminiscent of the Gibson Sunburst Les Paul, this finish is more than classic. The black nickel hardware offsets this a bit and this theme is carried through with the die-cast hoops.

recorded on zoom q3 at Newcastle Drum Centre and played by Dave Mckeague

  • awesome man...is this the same snare as the "G-Maple" starclassic snares? just wondering because i've been wanting the "g-maple" one they have on the guitarcenter website...This is definitely a beasty snare

  • @wolverine114 the G-Maples had slightly thicker shells and were available up to 8"s deep. They are now no longer in production so TAMA started making their normal starclassic snares deeper too. This one is a regular maple starclassic and has the time-tested 5mm thin shell as opposed to the G-maple's 8mm.

  • @newcastledrumcentre sorry, the g-maple used to be 13 plies at 10mm thickness, the regular is 5mm thick

  • @newcastledrumcentre Not sure if I'm right or wrong, but I think Tama still manufactures the G-Maple snare. I've seen a few different online stores who still sell it. It might just be because they have some left, but I really don't know. n

  • @XxStrongDrums1996xX some shops will definitely have some in, and distributors will no doubt be backlogged so they're still available.
