  • Delightful skewering of a great artist who often took herself way too seriously. Just a little sidelight: Lincoln Kierstein commissioned Cecil Beaton to do the designs. I delivered them to Karinska's studio by taxi. She constructed the "cage" which Martha stepped out of, but Beaton designed it. Karinska took his designs and adapted them. Martha hated Beaton's design for the white nightgown. She wanted a red dress! So Karinska made a red dress with little ruffs at the neck and wrists.
