In the West, there are 3 kinds of animals: farm animals (food), pets (objects of affection), & wild animals (gamed or conserved). We have fairly rigid ideas about what animals to eat, what to love, & what to fight/hunt or conserved.
The Chinese just think about animals as food, food...
Relationship between animals and humans is complicated. It's a good idea to spend more thoughts on this subject. Maybe one day we will have meat farmed/cultured from cells, solving most ethical problems.
