Katusha - US School of Music (USSM) Home Study Course, Lesson 23

This piece is often spelled Katiusha or Katyushka. It is a famous patriotic Russian folk song. The lesson calls for playing the piece only once, but I play it twice through. I also add some tonal variety by hitting the master bar on the second pass. A master bar is a feature on many acoustic accordions, so I am not using a feature unique of the Roland FR-7. Still, if you are using a student quality accordion, you probably don't have a master bar. I did not have one on my previous Hohner Amica III 120, and that model was above a student model. On my Hohner, at this tempo it would be difficult for me to hit my master register switch above the keyboard without skipping a beat. Instead I would play an extra measure at the end of the first pass with only the A Minor alternating bass accompaniment, thus freeing my right hand to comfortably make the register switch change.

Instrument: Roland FR-7 using standard voice Set #8 Ballroom. Treble switch: 1st pass #5 Organ, 2nd pass #8 Master. Bass switch: #4 Master. Sordina switch ON.

Audio recording: Direct audio connection to PreSonus FireBox connected to DELL XPS 630i computer running Audacity recording software.

Video recording: Sony Webbie camera set to HD 1920x1080 pixel resolution.

Video editing: Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 on DELL XPS 630i computer.
