Flamenco is the music of the south of Spain, it was originated in Andalucia, but in Murcia and Extremadura (also in the south)were developed "palos" of flamenco as well, so flamenco belongs to all the south of Spain, not only to Andalucía. What is more, it is not gypsy music only. Flamenco is the music of payos and gipsies, but gipsies used to sing it for earning money and that's why people think they are the inventors but this is not true.

@Laflamenca21 Bueno, Andalucía es la indiscutible cuna del flamenco, eso es cierto, pero también es verdad que los gitanos son la raza más característica, y si que han sido ellos, los que a través del tiempo han ido propagando lo que es el flamenco, cierto que desde los inicios del flamenco, lo han vivido tanto payos como gitanos, pero no podemos negar, que los gitanos son el gran sentido del flamenco mas puro aqui en andalucia.

@Laflamenca21 Until the Calo people (the gypsies) got to Spain, there was no such thing as Flamenco. Flamenco was "invented" by the gypsy blacksmiths. They have "aflamencado" many things like sevillanas and fandangos that are not really flamenco, but things like siguiriyas, martinete, tangos, bulerias, solea, alegrias, etc are flamenco. Made by gypsies. Thank God we can share it, but let's not discount their work.

My Flamenco teacher, who is close to 80 and from Granada would say it's a sin to say Sevillanas are part of flamenco.
