  • "Sega Genesis is 16 bits,

    3DO is 32 bits,

    Atari Jaguar is 64 bits!!!11"

Somewhy I prefer Genesis over Atari and 3DO :)

  • Seems like that Virtua Racing ripoff game runs on a way lower framerate on the Jaguar, than the actual Virtual Racing runs on the 16 bit Genesis.

  • @kevenzz

NAOMI and Dreamcast have the exact same CPU, Hitachi's SH-4, which is technically a 32-bit processor. NAOMI just has a metric ton more RAM and can be stacked together.

  • @Leishmaniasisably well..... yeah the cpu in the dreamcast in 128bits..... but most dreamcast game are based from an Arcade system called Naomi, which use a Hitachi 32 bits processor :) it's quite technical but.... oh well.

  • @kevenzz No, most new consoles are 32, but the dreamcast was the last console to be marketed by an increase in bits.

  • @Leishmaniasisably the dreamcast and most newer console are actually 32 bits.

  • Well Dreamcast is 128 bit, so...

  • Chequered Flag shows just how BAD the Jaguar was!

  • @Vesenumber22 I have also heard that due to being unfamilar with the very complex chip arrangement john carmack did have problems getting the midi music in game with the very limited development time, but it is on the cartridge and can be played in game with a cheat, in a co-op game linked with another jaguar.

i have 2 jaguars, but i only have 1 doom cartridge and cant find my link cable to try it out

  • @Vesenumber22 it was rushed to be the first console release and a launch games for the jaguar, which it pretty much was

the idea was to have the still in development jaguar cd play the music having the best possible audio plus the faster transfer and game speed of the cartridge format.

they found out they couldnt access both.

john carmack said he felt he could have got a much better version of doom out of the hardware.

which is something, as many regard this is one of the best conversions.

  • Why Doom for Jaguar has no music?????

  • @Meganeo5 from john carmack that shows how competive the jag was for the first off that generation.

because the Jaguar wasn't designed to push polygons as the PlayStation was, many continue to believe it couldn't keep up, even though the specifications are similar. In fact, John Carmack (author of Doom) claims "If the Jaguar had dumped the 68k and offered a dynamic cache on the risc processors and had a tiny bit of buffering on the blitter, it could have put up a reasonable fight against Sony."
