There are still talented songwriters around, and they find their way into the public consciousness. Its hard of course, just like it was for Nick. Record companies won't invest in a talent the way they once did, and we suffer for that. TV has never really been a place where talent is developed... you can make a big act bigger on tv, but its hard to build them up from ground level. TV shows where you sing covers will never discover singer songwriters

You're probably spot on, dude but the point I was making wasn't specifically centered around Nick Drake. It was about truly talented songwriters in general. There seems to be no room left for them to flourish nowadays like they once did. Would Janis get a deal nowadays...?
