  • I used to hear these occasionally when I was a teenager. There was always something very majestic about them. I often wondered why there was a pause after the initial burst of noise, then it would start bellowing again.

  • Did they have air raid sirens still in opeartion back then?

  • Beautiful train isn't! Hope get future upgraded by new electric trains or same improvement trains.

  • @maywemaywe -it previously carried identities like D1630 then 47048 and 47570. It was meant to have been converted to a Class 57 but was rejected following discovery of serious structural defects some 30 years after its horrific accident.

  • Back in 1972 this locomotive was smashed up at Eltham. It was working an excursion, the driver had been knocking back alcohol as he was driving and he then took a 20mph bend at 80mph. He killed 4 passengers as well as himself.
