She made Loretta Lynn so proud. Sissy Spacek proved to be a living phenomenon.

Surprised by the support for Mary Tyler Moore, who, I think, had the hardest part to play in "Ordinary People", a movie I worship. I've always been puzzled by the scene in which Timothy Hutton says "goodnight" to Mary & Sutherland, and then hugs Mary, his Mom. The camera holds for a long time on Moore, who has a sorrowful, almost stricken look on her face. It doesn't quite work for me--it's too extreme a reaction. I've always wondered what Moore was going for there--what was she thinking?

Sissy's win was definitely one of the best choices by the AMPAS for this category. Her Loretta Lynn was truly astounding, and not merely an imitation: it was a reinterpretation, bringing Spacek's nuances to Lynn's music. Besides the singing, she also acted brilliantly.
