This is a Heljan Class 17 (Clayton) fitted with a ESU Loksound chip. Due to the lack of space in the model the speaker is in the fuel tank and the sound chip is stuck to the roof.

The Heljan motor suffered the common fate with this chip and burnt out so I have replaced it with a DS10.

  • how does a chip burn a motor out?!

my model shop now refuses to stock heljan due to customer service issues and the faults etc.

Turns out it was actually the factory in china that was to blame ; wrong tolerances in transmission parts.

  • Good project. Is it a certain sort of DCC chip that causes the 17 motors to burn out? I was thinking about going to DCC - and have a 17 - so this worries me!

    Thanks

  • how much wos the sound chip

  • Can I ask what sound file that is please?
