Took some quick videos with the MC Rokkor PF 58mm f/1.4 while my sister was driving. The sun was right about to go down, so I used the opportunity to get some dramatic lighting.

The lens was adapted with a Minolta MC/MD to m4/3 adapter from amazon.com for about $32. Even though this lens wasn't made for video, I love the flares and soft focus it gives. Very film-like. It can be found pretty cheap; a quick search on ebay turned up a few for around $50. F/1.4 is soft so I went with f/2 for these shots. Great lens for still shooting as well; a good bargain.

Holding a 58mm (116mm EFL) steady is tough and introduces CMOS "wobble" so I'll have to put it on my steadycam for future shoots. I also hope to get some shots with the Rokkor PF 135mm f/2.8, which on m4/3 essentially becomes a 270mm f/2.8.

Music is "Without Standing" by Lusine Icl.

  • I'm curious...do you envision the look and shots of the video prior and during to shooting or do you simply shoot as much footage as you want/can and then find the look you want during editing?

  • @GSaddict More than anything I just listen to music and feel a mood that I want to create with my clips. Then I go and try to capture scenes that fit that mood. For this there wasn't any planning, in fact I didn't even go out with shooting video in mind, but the opportunity presented itself! In the near future I hope to do an actual full music video, and that will require planning and prep.

  • Brilliant!!! Always a fan of your videos!

I'm not even a beginner on cameras.

I've been thinking about the Panasonic GF1 for a long time, do you think it's a good camera for me? I want to start somewhere...=(

  • @GoIdstin Thank you! I personally think any camera is a great starting point. I started with my dad's old Canon A70 3 megapixel point and shoot. As you grow and learn more about photography with the camera you have, you will learn what you want from a camera (slr, compact, superzoom) and you can make a more serious purchase from there. I do, however, find the GF1 very easy to use, and no one in my family is intimidated by it like they were with my Olympus SLR! Even my mom can use the GF1.

  • I like it a lot - nice job.

  • @cshommel Thanks!

  • yeah Shreeb2. Really nice composition. Has a really relaxed vibe to it. You make good use of the bokeh.

    Thanks again

  • Wow this is a really nice one. I also love your choice of music btw.

  • love it!! though i think this lens isn't wide enough for every day use on such a crop sensor...
