At the foot of a cliff in the Ardèche Gorges, in south-eastern France, amateur cave explorers discovered the world's oldest painted prehistoric cave. The art in here is 31,000 years ago, and includes painting and engraving that show extraordinary skill and dexterity ... and genuis.

  • hey great video.

    what's the song called?

  • Thank you. The song is Pax Deorum by Enya or the Taliesin Orchestra. I added the heartbeat in the background.

  • If you're interested in cave painting, have a look at the You Tube videos of "The Origin of Painting" (sound and light installation) by art group Disinformation

  • I am indeed very interested in it. Thank you for the information.

  • Those were not primitive artists. they had spent alot of time refining their drawing skills. you can see it in their confindence of line.

  • Is any of this art available as prints? Is it in a book yet?

  • @vangard213 um, yea, that's still called art. even nowadays, if a lil kid is bored and draws on the wall with a crayon... it's art. Art is a form of expression. a drawing is art.

  • The origin of painting

  • Tomorrow at art school I have to start a painting that suggests I'm in a cave with paintings. This video is a great help to imagine how I would feel if I really would see all this beauty. Although my heart would beat in my chest much faster than the heartbeat you added, it represents the tension and expectation!

  • @writeDVD Glad I'm not the only one that found that ironic.

  • Great video. The art of this cave is manufactured by neanderthals.
