8/14/08 - Stennis Space Center. Roughly 4pm local time, 100 yards from test stand. During thunderstorm (rare). Starts @ 2:30 minutes. 109% RPL @ 4:20 (basically full throttle). For the aero nerds out there...

  • its raining because liquid hydrogen+liquid oxygen=liquid water

    the smoke is actually steam

  • It's amazing that we can be that close to a test in person, but can't build a house 8 miles away.

  • Seeing an engine test fire seems to me at this point to be more exciting than seeing an actual launch. Where was this video taken? I'd be willing to travel to see a test like this.

  • actually, it started pouring mid-test. also... apologies to everyone, this is the best my 5 year old kodak digital camera could do. we also had *tentatively, pending more funding from congress* our last test a few weeks ago :(

  • Too bad the burning flare stack noise is almost louder than the actual noise of the engine test firing.

  • it is NOT raining!!!! The smoke is steam though.

  • This is just one engine. Also, you can't see the engine inside of the stand, unfortunately.

  • And that's just one of the engines, right?

  • Great video, the next time you film a test could you zoom in on the engine itself. I know it shows up better at night but it would be great to see a close up of the engine at full throttle.
