As a side note on my pet posts, I often get comments about how much people "want one." I encourage you to read up on the proper care and treatment of all of these critters that you want. A pet is not a fashion accessory, collectible, or spur-of-the-moment item, it is a living thing and needs proper care, housing, nutrition, and most importantly attention. It also has hidden costs such as vet bills and food expenses. It is a big responsibility.

As a plea for animal welfare I give you this:
If you love guinea pigs and want one, I encourage you to adopt and rescue pigs (and all of your pets) from shelters and rescues rather than pet stores. Pet stores often support and buy their animals from mass breeders; people who mistreat, abuse, and neglect animals and are only in it for the profit. If the pet you want can't be found in a shelter, then do your best to find a private breeder.
