  • If you plan to go around world on Cult Crusade You should not drag your kids with you. They deserve some stability in life

  • were you an MK yourself?

  • I was an MK in PNG (Papua New Guinea) for most of my life. Born and raised there, until furlough-ing in the US. My family was back and forth between my home (which I consider to be PNG) and America so much, I didn't fit in ANYWHERE. I still don't really k.i.t with people I knew from home. But the experience of living there and being around the natives, and the lessons I learned about life are uncomparable. I'd warn all FAMILIES of the heartbreak and damage uprooting can have on their children.

  • Agreed. I did a paper last year in college on MKs, (a topic obviously very close to my heart) and i ran into a book based out of this huge conference in PNG back in the day talking about MKs and all the issues they were facing. I will find it in the library and give you the title so you can look it up, if you'd like. God bless, our experiences are somehitng no one will fully understand unless they've lived it - not somehitng we'd trade, but also something we'll always have to deal with.God Bless

  • this video is great. I'm so glad you made it. I've been an MK for the past 5 years in Kenya, and now i'm about to go off to college in California...i've been back to the states off and on between school breaks, but it's true...I don't really know where I fit. I don't see the world the way kids who have been living in America their whole lives view it. Not that i'm ungrateful for it--but it does make me very different and i sometimes struggle to figure out how i'm meant to act. but its really ok

  • hey there,

There;s a guy who's here in college with me in Canada, and he's been an MK in Russia, Phillipines, and was in a high school boarding school in S. Korea. He's feeling a whole lot like you - not sure where he fits. I cannot always identify with him, But I still try to stand by him in his struggles the best i can - we are a rare breed indeed, don't lose heart! our parents' ministries make us able to do things many people can't understand. Our lives are unique for a purpose. God bless :)

  • @carolshewolf I grew up as a missionary kid and I had much more stability in my home than I've seen in a number of American families that have stayed in one place. Obviously there are differences for each family in how they handle overseas transitions, but the exposure different cultures has helped me relate to people in a unique way. I wouldn't trade my experiences for anything, and certainly not a "stable" life.

  • ive had experiences where i (not an MK) have tried to make friends with MKs whilst visiting them in the mission field but failed! i feel that that may be different now, if i were to meet another MK, partly because i now regard myself as a "proper" christian, but id just like to say this: im sure that, although being brought up in a different culture is a great experience, we still need people like me, living a "boring" life back in the places of our birth. any comments on this??

  • MK on the field here! this vid was great! i just wish there were more MKs where i lived... but my cousins are MKs too and i have loads of MK friends online so it's awesome! great video! :)

  • at least someone liked their Mk/PK upbringing......mine sucked

  • I wouldn't give up my experiences as an MK for a million dollars. What an awesome experience.... traveling the world, having friends in multiple cultures, enjoying a mission family and extended family (we still have reunions with our missions family), etc. I loved being a MK. My life is richer as a result of those experiences/people. Still, I know of some MKs who hated every minute of their experience. However, who's to say their experiences would have been any better in the States?

  • thanks for sharing this I totally understand what you're saying. I love meeting new mks because we can connect instantly.

  • Thanks for posting this, I totally understand what it means to be an mk and nodded my head in agreement. I love meeting new mks because we can connect so fast even if we have never known that each other existed.

  • haha, i'm an MK and this is very true.
