St. Nicolas Eve is a good time to think of wild animals as St. Nick's Sleigh is usually pulled by Horses or Reindeer. In some countries children leave out hay and carrots on the Eve of December 5th for the Horses of St Nick in hopes that they might get a present in return. I modify this tradition to include the wild animals in my area who need some extra help to make it through the months ahead. I saw ducks, deer and geese today. I might get a few squirrels, cardinal and raccoons in my yard tomorrow. There are always sparrows, sometimes finches, Downy Woodpeckers and occasionally Kestrals.

  • @benjioben Hi Ben, I did some research on it. It's a European Custom in some countries where St. Nicks Sleigh is pulled by Horses instead of Reindeer. I combines it with my Native American Tradition.

  • nice..... this is new to me. St. Nicolas Eve.

But we do go to mass for St. Nicolas Feast.
