If you're interested in historic dances look into English Country dancing or Contra dancing.
English Country is much more elegant whereas Contra, which is derived from English Country, is the rowdier American cousin. Both usually feature waltzes during breaks and sometimes other folk or contemporary dances. Google search "Ted Crane Dance Database" to find dances near you!

We have a ball with vintage dances, including this one, each year where I live, and in many other places as well.

@loverrR411 that's why people like me are civil war reenactors, it's all about keeping history alive. We do host an annual ball where we do the old dances. you should check it out, it's a lot of fun and very rewarding

This dance is my favey! I just learned how to do it the other night. It is fun and elegant. Thanks. for sharing. Sigh!! I too wish we had balls like these. It seems you have to join a Civil War group in order to do them.

i wish we still had balls like those
