£370 is just over £600 now, problem is most people only care about features, programmes, options, spin speed, looks and energy usage. Fact is, none of these things matter when the machines are as poorly made as they are today, people will spend £700+ on an LG just cos it "looks pretty" when they could get a Miele, which will wash, rinse and care for the clothes better and last about 3 times as long on average for the same price. If they knew all this I think they would definately think twice!
£370 - for a 1000spin washing machine, that is the equivlant now of about £800
and for the same price back then as you can now, you can get a hotpoint ultima wmd960 for £370, more programms, more options, variable spin and rinse functions and better wash, energy and spin performance but will only last 1/5th of the time of 9574.
BTW: hotpoint didn't release this model range till 1990.
