  • I thought I had seen everything until I saw that "book" capacitor! That is really neat!

  • Thanks Thermionman1970

It is an interesting design and it works.

  • About how much does a radio from the 20's cost, because that is really neat and would be a nice piece to fix and showcase

  • @davethehunter2

Generally $100-$200 for a typical working, all original, 1920s radio without tubes. Must of the time the 01A tubes are worth more than the radio, if there good.

  • Amazing stuff, you really can do magic with these old radios! Out of curiosity, how much does 1920s radios in that condition sell for? I'm sure it can vary a lot depending on brand etc.

    Regards,

    Frank

  • @AllAmericanFiveRadio thanks for the info

  • Thanks rick62008

The 01A is a very simple tube so I usually just use an ohmmeter to check the filament. If the filament checks good and I have no shorted plate or control grid, I'll try it out in a radio. The bad tubes in this set had open filaments. For cleaning I used Sani Wax, All Surface Cleaner & Polish. It is great stuff.

  • I am a newbie when it comes to old radios, but did you use some kind of product to clean this radio? Or merely just water?

Also, you notice the tubes where bad, did you check that on a tube tester, or can it be done without a tube tester?

Beautiful set! I find it funny when it said " dot com" . Who would have thought!

    Hey Gary,

Sure that would help. The main draw back is the 52 does not have a tuned tanks circuit. So it is a really miserable radio to tune in a station with. 90VDC on the plate of the audio output would help the horn diver a lot. But they used 45VDC, maybe that was to keep the 52 from interfering with neighbors radio. These regen radios transmit noise pretty good. Rick
