I saw her at the MET in Francesca de Rimini, Boheme, Carmelitas, Norma, Don Carlos. She always had a detractor base there, and they spray painted a famous poster of her in that famous "What becomes a legend most" fur campaign after the Norma opening with a profanity I won't mention, they were taken down and replaced with Lena Horne. She was not in good voice at the opening, probably nerves, but, they mocked the way she looked in an afro inspired wig. She had a great stage presence. I liked her.

Sung like a true prayer.... Scotto's version has a beautiful spirit behind the singing. The top notes get away from her, but I appreciate her sensitive approach to the appogiaturas in the vocal line. Very gentle

@patjan92 Thanks for your comment. Unfortunatelly, most of the people who love opera, like myself, let themselves carry away by their emotions... and for some, Opera is a war between aduiences and singers.. (think of CALLAS and her love-hate relationship with the audiences). What is undeniable is the fact that Ms. Scotto had a great voice! Greetings!

@orfeo2003 Unfortunately, her live Norma at the Met in the early eighties was not well received; in fact, she was booed by an audience that normally applauds if one can carry a tune. I was in the opening night audience, and although I didn't like the performance I felt the audience acted disgracefully. That stage was the scene of many triumphs for Mme. Scotto. Shame on them.
