@BoringPittsburgh: Seattle has something like this with Hydroplane (boats that race at SeaFair) races, except they're just cartoons. It's all just for fun. The way the M's and Pirates have been playing lately, the fans need the distraction. Two teams with great ballparks and suffering teams. (M's haven't been in the dumps for 18 years, though)
Pierogies or Hydroplanes, here's hoping both teams can work their way up. It's cold and damp enough in Sea-town without being stuck in the cellar.

Biggest loss in Pirates' history, and they're having a freakin' "Perogi Race". No wonder the stadium looks empty! Imagine the Steelers or Pens stopping to have a Chipped Ham Slam Dunk contest, or Measure the Mullet contest - it wouldn't happen.
