Somehow a set of the new SD40E's wound up on a westbound empty hopper train. The engines were put on the train at Corning NY at 430am on 2-18-09 and the train went west over the WNY&P's former ERIE mainline during the day on the way to Conway and the mines. The train was daylight from Hornell NY to Hubbard OH. We are at Cambridge Springs Pa, 88 miles west of Salamanca on the A&GW. I am standing and filming under the canopy of the former ERIE/Northwestern Pennsylvania Railway station in town during a rainstorm. This is one of the few stations left on the WNY&P. It's nearing 3pm and the Meadville based crew has 16 miles left til home. At this time there are no more than 7 of these SD50 rebuilds active on NS, and they seem to be assigned to helper service on the PRR east of Pittsburgh. That 2 wound up here is pretty amazing.
