I think its because during season 1 of Heroes or during the comic con after season 1 of Heroes the writers were asked is there a plan for the hsoe to end after a certain season or when this or that story is told and the creator responded "well we don't have to get off the island/theres no island for us to get off", so heroes is more open ended and isn't moving towards anything in particular like Lost. at least thats my guess maybe they just decided to use another well known show.

I also just realized that Greg is part of Heroes, and hes friends of not sure which of the LOST creators, so maybe it was a bit of both.

and he was the original 815 pilot,don't forget that.
