Krush Groove: Beastie Boys

Krush Groove (1985) - The Beastie Boys play themselves performing "She's On It" in a record contract contest at the Bronx's legendary Disco Fever. In a film otherwise packed with lengthy and flattering showcases of Def Jam artists, the Boys get the shortest shrift here, performing just one line apiece to a booing crowd. Of course one year later they'd release Licensed to Ill and the rest is history -- but one could say this clip remains indicative of their doomed relationship with Def Jam.

The Beastie's were with Def Jam before the movie. Their single "Rock Hard" was the second single from Def Jam in '84.

@anonymousent I think the boo's are because their music sounded too comical and white. Hip Hoppers didn't take to it very well then, but the Beasties earned respect by showing how dope their rapping really is in later albums. Gotta start somehwere.
