This film was not for profit and was just a project for my "Intro to Fiction" class.

For 30 extra credit points we had to make a short film based on one of the short stories we read and discussed in class. I chose my favorite story that I have read several times.

It's one of those psychological thrillers.

It is based on the short story "Where are you going, where have you been?" by Joyce carol Oates

My girlfriend wishes to state that she is a theatre actress and NOT a film actress.

My girlfriend did a fantastic job editing this together. It was shot in one day over a period of nine hours and there was a half hour worth of footage. When we both saw the finished product we were so excited.

There is some langauge but nothing too bad.

Originally, my cousin was going to play the villian but he had to drop out due to work and time constraints. My girlfriend, as you can see, plays the protaganist.

"Where are you going, where have you been?" remains the property of the author Joyce carol Oates. When you get a chance, please read it. It's a great story.

Enjoy the film.

P.S. I'll tell you guys what my class thought of it and if I got the extra credit points.

(Update-jan. 6th, 2008. I know I never told you guys this. I forgot to get back to this video. My teacher ended up giving me the full 30 points. In fact, he liked it so much, that he shows it to his friends and he plans on showing it to his future students. He also wants to know if me and my girl can adapt another story for him. One that was written by Ernest Hemmingway. We'll see what happens. I'm hopeful.)

  • I've chosen this story for a critical essay in my WRI 121 class. While I was researching I stumbled across this video. You all did such a wonderful job with it! It being a dream of Connie's is yet another interpretation I didn't think of until now. I would like to reference this video in my essay if that's alright with you.

  • I think that would be a great idea! My girlfriend and I are always pleased to know that the video is helpful. Thanks for the comment.

    :)

  • Love your work! Joyce Carol Oates would be proud....have you contacted her yet? This has such an Oates flavor to it......really love it!

  • No, I haven't contacted her. Maybe I should just to see what she thinks of it. I hope she enjoys it. You know how I can reach her?

Thanks for the compliments. Me and my girl worked really hard on it. Plus, this story has been a favorite of mine for quite some time now. I think I wanna do more adaptations.

  • I've read this short story before (really well written) and I wanted to see a video of it - so great job! I'd love to make one myself.

  • Which story would you do yours on?

    just curious.

  • In 10:10 I like how you can see angel wings behind Arnold Friend which to me represents how the devil was once an angel himself.

  • Great work... I'm definitely showing it in my class... cheers!

  • You both did a wonderful job! KudOs!

  • Dude, who is the chick- email me for work.

  • This video was awesome. It stumpled on this when I was researching this short story for a Lit Classs and I could just about follow the story line by the action the characters portrayed. I had thought about not writing about this short story but this video inspired me too... Great video

  • This is amazing! You really captured the idea that she was trying to convey in such a short film. Great job! I just read this in my english class, and find it to be a truly fascinating story, and love the multiple interpretations of it. My english teacher recognizes Ellie Oscar as a hermaphrodite with the female first name and male last name. Suggesting that he isn't any competition to Arnold, because he doesn't need her to reproduce. Weird but interesting. Great job though! Really enjoyed it!

  • im writing an essay on this short story and it was my favorite too its just so intense i couldnt stop reading it lol!! great job btw! your girlfriend is really good as connie :)

  • You're very welcome!
