[EDIT] This video speaks the truth...he's not done yet!! Lava Man is returning to the races this weekend after being retired in the summer of 2008. After ankle work, they say he's back to his old self. And that he was moping around in his new job. Doug O'Neil said that since Lava Man has returned to the backside, he's noticeably happier and obviously excited about racing. Lava Man races in the Native Diver Handicap this Saturday. Pray that he comes home safe and happy!

[EDIT] Lava Man was retired in the summer of 2008, due to Xrays taken that showed a difference in the bone structure in his ankles that could have led to injury. He was retired sound.
A lot of people are dissapointed over Lava Man's loss in his first race of 2008, but it only looks as though he needed the race. He didn't run badly, and he didn't give up. Give him another chance.

I think that was my favorite race. I taped it, and I remember during the stretch run I was jumping up and down and screaming "Come on baby! Go Lava Man!" He sure can get your heart racing.

He's definitely one of my favorites, too. Wasn't it a thrill when he tied Native Diver last year? :)

It was my first time seeing him on sunday and it was so cool seeing him within arms length from me and i felt like a papparazi snapping pics of him,(if interested in the pics they're on flickr my tag is Chief.A-Ballz) such a great moment such a great horse my fave by far just because of his dedication...go lavaman!
