The Northallerton College summer concert 2005. I'm playing 'My Funny Valentine' with the College Jazz Orchestra, not brilliant sound quality but its OK. Theres a slip at the start but overall its not too bad, played this a while ago so its not as stylistic as I'd like but what can you do...

  • what type of 'orchestra' do you know that has more than five saxes in its standard instrumentation? we use the number we have because we have that many decent sax players

  • Hey, I just thought I would say, the male tenor sax player on the far right hand side is pretty cool. Looks like he knows what he's doing!

Well, that was me, so I guess I would say that.

Comedy finding this video! Do u have the Stan Getz one of with my solo? Also, this isnt my account, this is my mates, but i couldnt be bothered to log in.

Right, laters. (Upload Stan Getz, u know you want to)

  • Ha ha, I got a little bit suspicious during that first paragraph :-P

Sorry I don't have any more videos of the jazz orchestra, I got this one from Alex. You got any vids of yourself? Haven't heard one of your solos in a while (and I want to hear your altissimo tehnique :-P)

  • not a big band. more like a huge band

  • So far good intonation between your trumpet solo all the way thru. I played this at my high school band one time and it was really cool. That just shows my expression between my trumpet heroes: Maynard Ferguson, Freddie Hubbard, Chuck Mangione and partly a bit of Clifford and a bit of Clark Terry by the way.

It'll been better I did it on flugel or perhaps muted trumpet like what Miles does.

  • wtf you might as well call that an orchestra! look at all those dam saxes!! >.< you just need 5 for a jazz ensemble....

  • It's a great performance.

  • Hi, Josh, this is your Canadian cousin Ruth - that was pretty darn good! Your Mum sent me the link, it's great to see you playing after hearing about your music for so long. Keep it up! Hugs :-)

  • Good intonation but I would suggest that rather than just play the notes on the page that you let the music speak to you and adapt your style to the tune. It's a great chart that with a little work could be so much better.

I am always amazed as I watch younger bands on Youtube that most of them suffer from a lack of listening to the chart and their intonation.

    Keep up the good work.
