http://www.ted.com Physicist and surfer Garrett Lisi presents a controversial new model of the universe that -- just maybe -- answers all the big questions. If nothing else, it's the most beautiful 8-dimensional model of elementary particles and forces you've ever seen.

difficult speaker to listen to.
he's not very confident so every sentence takes exactly the same tonal structure.

Its all rubbish! To understand the universe all you need to do is reverse the role of matter and space. Now, gravity is no longer a force and becomes an effect and dark matter suddenly becomes visable and accountable. Secondly, get rid of the concept of pull or attraction. Nature can only push - only living organisms can pull. Now, all those complex problems are solved and I don't have a physics degree either.

I don't really have any clue what you mean because it's not a field I study, but are you taking into account that this is from October 16 of 2008? 5 years ago.

I like his reaction to string theory. From what I understand, string theory has largely been dismissed.

Just because an argument is not "mainstream" does not warrant the argument as "misinformed". I am unure by "misnformed" you may be dismissing the argument. We would have to read the actual manuscript and duplicate the experiment to invalidate the theory.
