First psalm (110) of Claudio Monteverdi's fabulous Vespri della Beata Vergine from 1610. With this collection of psalms, motets and antiphones, Monteverdi aimed to find himself a better job in either the Roman Vatican or the San Marco in Venice. His style is glorious, rhythmical, harmonious and adventurous. There is a lot to enjoy in Monteverdi's Vespers, both for the audience and the choir.
The Amsterdam-based VU-Kamerkoor, conducted by Boudewijn Jansen, recorded this performance in the Dominicus Church in the heart of the city center, a week before Christmas 2009.
I miss the close-ups of choir members you had in some of your earlier videos. And I'm wondering: the bow-ties. Why? Are they part of a new look, inspired by the fact that there are no men under 25 (and few under 30) in the VU-chamber choir?
But these are minor quibbles. A very good recording of a very good choir singing at its peak. Keep up the good work!
