Greenwich Village folk singer (and big Dylan influence) Karen Dalton performing her version of "It Hurts Me Too", originally made popular by Elmore James. From a French documentary filmed in NYC, 1969.
This footage and more is now available as the bonus DVD that comes with some Karen Dalton reissue CDs. Highly recommended are the lost live recordings of Karen Dalton (also including the DVD) form Delmore Recordings: http://delmorerecordings.com/?page_id=3

Does anybody know what tuning this is in? The chord progression that matches is G, C, D. But with the chords she's making I can't figure out what tuning this must be in.
I usually play Elmore James' stuff in open D. That's what he usually used I think. That's what I play this song in. It's D A D Gflat A D. From top to bottom. Biggest string to the smallest.
where, where, where can I get this version of this song? the itunes of her singing this is nothing to compare with this. poster of video: please help? helplessly in love with this...
Here's my top "unknown" genius of the 60's, Karen Dalton. Sometimes when I've had maybe a bit too much to drink, when my mind is staggering like the ghost of electricity and I need to feel real, naked emotion, I'll put on Karen's CD, "In My Own Time" and I'll just fall to pieces. I place that album alongside "Astral Weeks" or "A Love Supreme" It just slays me!
So last night I played the album "It's So Hard To Tell..." for the first time, it being recommended by Tom Moon in his "1001 Recordings To Hear..." book. I had to look it up again to see the release date. 1969?! How did I not know about this lady? I said to myself that this recording has a real "Astral Weeks" feel to it! I just looked her up on YouTube, and here's your comment with the mention of "Astral Weeks". I thought that was interesting. What a lovely voice! I'm hooked.
