Check out our new website at http://sheritharp.com for new videos and art.

The project seen is called "Grapes and Leaves" and is a Berkeley Woodcarving instructor's beginning project for new students.

This is a beginning project because it uses most of the tools you will need in more advanced carving (V tool, U tool, stop cuts, .etc).

To Make this particular Grapes and leaves appear to be carving by its self we took exactly 3233 pictures. Sheri (the woodcarver) would break up a cut which would normally be one movement into (depending on the length) 3-5 small ones. After each small cut she would have to remove her hands from the frame and I would make sure no stray dust was in the shot. One can imagine what 3233 of those must have been like.

If you liked the music you can find more at Magnatune.com.

  • Blessing on youre hands..what was harder to make the carving or the video !? :-)

  • Hello, my mother was the woodcarver, she is amazing. All I did was sit on the computer taking picture after picture :). The carving itself is a very easy carving (she teaches classes and this is the beginning project that they all must do). The most challenging thing about doing this was carving the wood and then getting out of the shot to take the picture. (I carved a little bit of the really easy stuff and did the staining at the end).

  • Fascinating. It's a pity that YouTube is largely a morass of pointless, narcissistic ordure. Occasionally there a gems such as this. I don't know if you (both i.e gmacster & Mother) thought it was worth the effort, but I am very grateful that you created something quite hypnotic and kindly shared it.

    Thanks :)
