@rgmrtn I totally agree.. and I don't. One sees Shutta and you picture that life you describe. With Lavin, I see a glamour girl who has aged but who has always been invested in her looks and presentation and continues to be so, she seems to have money, whether made on her on or by her man, who knows?! Let me also say, I totally loved Jayne's interpretation in the current production as well! All of these great actresses, utterly charming!

@jmt319 I have always loved the special talents of the great Ms Linda Lavin, but a "powerful voice"??? As I know Ms Lavin agrees, she is not a singer -- she is a great performer.

Having heard the soundtrack of follies, I am sad that Linda Lavin wasnt transferred into Broadway like the rest of the cast. I was VERY disappointed with Jayne Houdyshell's version. Also not thrilled they did the "unified" ending. This song is a showstopper like "I'm still here" and it needs to be started and finished strong and alone.

Yes! I love Jayne Houdyshell doing this on Broadway. She is definitely one of the highlights from a great production.

Wow! This is fabulous; I knew Linda Lavin could sing, but had no idea how powerful her voice is and what a terrific singer she is.
Her interpertation of Broadway Baby is thrilling, but so different from how I've ever seen it performed. Watching this clip is watching a master class in how to own the stage and make a song your own . Thanks so much for posting!

Jayne Houdyshell absolutely NAILS this on Broadway right now. So happy they brought her in. Also, the restored medley ending really brought down the house.

You see those pictures of Ethel Shutta with the corsage and the orthopedic shoes. You can picture a whole life from that, one bigger than show business. This other stuff is too sparkly and boring. That said, I think Lavin is pretty good.
