Dude the guy could of came off doing doign deadlifts and didnt wanna take off belt and carry it everywhere so he just left it on. Plus it looks cool :)
Belts are used for mainly lifting weight that is well above your bodyweight such as 400lbs, 500lbs etc...and are really only used for deadlifts, squats and sometimes standing military presses. The belt is used to help cause more IAP (Intra Abdominal Pressure) which helps keep a stable core and a healthy neutral spine. Having the belt on you push out your abs against the belt which tightens your core.
there is nothing wrong with wearing a belt, however it is unnecessary and is often worn out of habit or is there for mental reassurance. i used to never lift without a belt because i thought i would get hurt, but now i parallel squat almost 3 times my body weight with no belt. A strong core and good form eliminates all need for belts
i have busted my lower back several times on both squats and dead lift. therefore i alway wear a belt on heavy lifts(5 reps or less) in these exercises.
My scyatica, my two hernia operations, and the fact that I do deadlifts and hypers for lower back and I dont need to make my waist bigger when I row. Why do people wear gloves, use chalk, or straps? Best question: why do people pay attention to what others are doing in the gym instead of focusing on their 12 set full arm workout?
