Backstage Crush Chapter 18 pt 1

Kevin chased after Katie as she ran from the restaurant. He had no idea why she was upset, but he hoped it didn’t involve him. He saw her turn down a side street, and he quickly followed.
“Man, this girl can run fast in flip-flops.” He thought.
Kevin had only met her the day before, but he had dreamed about her for the past two years. Ever since he had seen her in the crowd that day, seeing her sing along, scream and clap her hands, cry during Nick’s speech, jump up and down with him throughout an entire song, he had fallen in love with her. He finally saw her collapse into a bench in a small abandoned park. He slowed his pace and came up beside her.
“Katie, sweet heart. What’s wrong?”
“Kev...” Katie looked up at her boyfriend. “My...”
“What babe?” Kevin sat down next to her and placed a comforting arm around her shoulders.
“My..my aunt just died. I have to call my Mom, but I can’t right now.”
“What? Was she sick? What happened?”
“Yeah, she was sick and in the hospital a lot. Kev, I was so close to her. She meant everything to me. I can’t believe she’s gone.”
“Come here love.” Kevin pulled his girlfriend in closer to him, as she cried softly into his chest. He didn’t care if it was going to leave a wet mark, he didn’t care who walked by and saw him with her. All he cared about was comforting Katie. All he had thought about since thy had parted that morning had been Katie. “You know, she’s better off now.”
“How so? She’s never going to see this Earth again. She won’t be at my college graduation like she had promised, she won’t be there to see me get married, or have a family. She may have been suffering, but heaven can’t be better than living, can it?”
“But she will Katie. Except now, instead of being in the audience at your graduation, she’ll be by your side. And at your wedding, she’ll be standing right there next to you. And she will always be there when you need her most. And heaven is for the living Katie. And you’ll see her again, in eternity.”
“How can you be so sure, Kev?”
“Because I have faith, Katie, and I know that up there, in the sky right now, she’s looking down on you, and wishing you were smiling instead of crying. Death hurts, I know, but you can’t hurt forever. Your aunt wants you to live out your life, to do the things that maybe she didn’t get to.”
“Kevin?”
