Learn a new technique for twined baskets: Ply-splitting! Here are scenes from the first DVD on the subject. Linda Hendrickson leads you step-by-step through the process of making her original ply-split garlic basket design. You will see clearly how to use a gripfid and Danish cord to create the ply-split twined structures, and how to shape the basket. With this basic knowledge, you can create your own designs.
The basket uses techniques of ply-split braiding, found mainly in the desert between India and Pakistan. Today only
a few old men are still carrying on the tradition of using sticks, fingers and goat hair to create exquisitely-patterned ply-split girths for their camels. Contemporary fiber artists are keeping the techniques alive by using them in new ways, and with new materials.
The DVD and basket kits are available on Linda's website.
