I've found people often get the wrong impressions of past eras by looking at pop culture. In 10-15 years, people will look back at, say, Lady Gaga, and go, "woah, what were people thinking dressing like that?"

Reality is, nobody dresses like Lady Gaga except similar freaks. It was similar in other eras with things people attribute to them. For instance, nobody actually dressed like TLC in the 90's.
