This is the published piano version (2001), which I have slightly amended to reflect small changes made by Sig. Einaudi in the recording of his later La Scala concert in 2003 (notably the repeat of the last six bars to correspond with the repeat in the introduction).

This is one of my favourite Einaudi pieces, which conveys a real depth of expression with the utmost economy of means. Einaudi has said about the piece: . "This is not, as many people think, a dance. Instead, it is about the state of mind in which we find ourselves when we are unable to make a decision, when there is a question mark hanging over us. In the music, questions are posed, some decisions seem to have been made, but at the very end our original question remains unanswered." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • For a ballet-show, I have to play this song on my harp. The dancers chose to dance on your interpretation so now I'm trying to play it exactly as you do (:

  • @YouCanPlayMusic Thank you. I'm really pleased to hear that my recording has been of use. Do send me a message to let me know what the company is and when they are performing, and I will think of them on the day!
