One of the best debates about the history of the 90s European dance music, is about the existence of the terms "Eurohouse" and "Eurodance".

Back in the mid 1994, a well known -then- paneuropean music channel, asked various artists with the question: what is the "euro" music ?

From the answers, the most obvious thing is that the term "Eurodance" is how the Americans labeled all the European commercial dance acts mostly produced in Germany and Italy at that time. This is how THEY call it. Not how the Europeans call it.

The term "Eurohouse" it is not mentioned at all in this rare interview: The term that used is "Euro". It seems that the music industry didn't decided yet how to call this commercial form of european house music. But the fact is that we, the europeans, already called it at the time being "Eurohouse". It was natural: it wasn't techno, rave, trance or whatever. It was a commercial dance music, like house. It was Eurohouse, produced in Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Belgium and Nederlands. Some other minor markets like Greece, Poland (before it became a huge dance industry) and Canada contributed a bit in a more local way.

This is history and nobody can rewrite it, because some Big Ones there in USA, need a term to sell their compilations. This is EURO! Beware!!!

Not exactly, Euro house and Eurodance are both two different Genres within the Euro Electronic genre.

  • Nineties are back.....

  • Truly, definitions of styles during the early 90s was very unclear, almost impossible to distinguish among the options. Here in Brazil, the 80s is called Flash House and the 90s nobody knows what to say about it, and the ones more knowledgeable call it Eurodance. I think everybody had only one option, to trust what they heard and overheard about it here and there, no matter how imprecise that could be. Perhaps a radio station would say A in the US and in Brazil, it would say B, so it's hard!

  • Man, how confusing...

It seems that we have different terminologies used in different countries. The 90s music IN BRAZIL was either House or Dance (with these names). Some minor ones who did not understand a bit of such a style of music would generalize everything as Techno, others (the majority), just Dance or using slang like "putz-putz" or "pô-pe-rô".

Much later I came to know the term Eurodance and that's how I've been calling it, but I confess, now I don't know what to say...

  • Eurodance is 4´15
