Frank Cicero Presentation of his new book, "Relative Strangers" at the American Italian Historical Assn conference Oct 22, 2011 Tampa FL. The focus of the book is Italian Protestants in Chicago. The relative strangers are Cicero's maternal relatives (Italian Protestants) and his fraternal relatives (Italian Catholics) in Chicago in the period from approximately 1900-1960s
Frank's experience is particularly interesting because the confounding variable of Anglo-Saxon Protestant-Italian Catholic in so-called "mixed marriages" in the 1920s-1940s makes it difficult to separate out which cultural attributes can be attributed to Protestantism and which to Catholicism. Frank's new book promises to be an important contribution to Italian-American studies. This video is a wonderful introduction to Frank's thesis.
