I´ve been there 5 years ago doing this crossing by ferry and it takes about less than 30 minutes. Very quickly, confortable and safe if you try Euro Ferry as I did.

You cannot pay in Pounds but it was inexpensive. I think about 20 Euro.

Depends on which boat you use and where you cross to. There are several crossings from Algeciras that take 30 minutes to Ceuta. Crossings to Tangier take longer. Crossings from Gibraltar are also faster than those from Algeciras but are less often.
