Hmmm... Let me guess! Xtion is for tracking the fingers and the Kinect is for tracking the entire body!?

It would be nice to see what happens when you stick up one two or three fingers or thumbs at the same time... The whole hand opening and closing is only one scenario.

a little suggestion, since u r using openNI anyway
openNI has built in hand detector/ skeleton
u can use the openNI hand detector to get ur Z coordinate of ur hand
then only perform depth segmentation using the Z coordinate u get
the purpose is to avoid FIXED depth, so user no need to stand on fixed position
and the hand no need to enter a fixed depth region to be detected
