tkon, if you ask Obama what a kishka is, he'll look at you with a blank expresion. Bye the way, do you know what"kishka" is??? It's a very deliscious blood sausage. I haven't enjoyed it in years. =Stefan=
What is never mentioned was that itwas NOT Yankovic who wrote the Keeshka, it was the MATYS BROTHERS FROM CHESTER, PA. I SHOULD KNOW, I WAS MARRIED TO GENE.THEY WERE ON AMERICAN BANDSTAND AUG28,1957. THEIR HIT SONGS WERE THE KEESHKA AND THE RUMMY POLKA AMONGST OTHERS.They also made records and 8 track tapes. --look it up on Wikipedia!!!!!! THE CREDIT SHOULD BE GIVEN WHERE IT IS DUE! PEARL(MATYS) ALVAREZ
Thanks for the tip about the Matys Brothers, I just listened to their great version on YouTube. Regarding Wikipedia, that resource identifies Walter Dana (writer) and Walter Solek (composer) as being the originators of the tune. I see (from the same resource) that the accordion playing Matys brother was also a Walter...just coincidence? You are also mentioned there, Pearl! Thanks for sharing.
We'll be performing it again on April 7th 2007 at the opening of Saturday Market. The tune I'm really looking forward to is our bluegrass version of U2's "I still haven't found what I'm looking for." (Sharon finally plays her banjo with AA!)
