If you have Vista, you should upgrade to 7 or downgrade to XP.

Vista Defragmenter sucks, even XP defragmenter was better. If you have Vista, use a third-party defragmenter.

it can run for hour if you dont do this it can run for allmost a 24hr if it runs longer than than that you got some other issues run ccleaner i know other pc tech will talk shit about that but in my 5 yrs of work yes run that and this and bam unless you have a virus than malwarebytes
