The Led Poisoning Show; Devastating version of DAC with Page and Bonham just feeding off one another. Bonham just keeps pushing Jimmy harder and harder. Jones is in usual great form but these recordings don't capture his sound very well. Plant is a little hoarse and plays at a different register. This was a very important time for Led Zeppelin but unfortunately this was not a largely publicized part of the 1973 tour. They were at their musical peak. I personally have never heard the Zeppelin machine working so tightly in all my years of listening. These string of European shows captures Page at his technical best. He is flying all over the guitar in a flurry of notes at lightning speed changing tempos while working off Jones and Bonham. Plant on the other hand is singing at lower register but does capture some magical moments. The reason why I say this is an important time for the band is because the band changed it's live structure after this. The American shows were played,i feel, at a slower more lumbering manner. Listen to Page coming in for the intro after the violen bow section. He keeps on ''calling'' to Bonzo but Bonzo won't budge. Finally Bonham comes in and the next 14 minutes is like nothing I've ever heard a live band (not to mention the biggest band in the world) do. After DAC, Plant sings "Happiness is a warm gun" obviously pleased with the lads. Great show.
This is one of the greatest Led Zeppelin concerts ever and Dazed And Confused here must be the best ever version .. absolutely amazing. The whole band, but especially Jimmy, is just unstoppable in this show, playing with such force, guts, dynamics and passion that it must be heard to be believed. The boys are in an excellent humour maybe with the exception of Jonesy. Plant: "Mr Jones has colic - must be careful! So all your spiritual feelings must go straight to Mr Hones' stomach." Some time after he also jokes: "It's very nice to be here in Vienna ... you've even got some good groupies!" Dancing Days wad introduced as a song "about little schoolgirls, not too young mind you, and my love for them ... remembered what happened to Jerry Lee Lewis, I think I'll take it easy." Truly outstanding sound and a concert that defies words!
